Position Summary

The CDL Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality training to students pursuing a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for both Class A and Class B certifications. The instructor will provide classroom instruction, hands-on vehicle training, and ensure students meet all federal and state requirements for safe and compliant commercial driving.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Training

• Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel training for CDL Class A & B students
• Teach pre-trip inspection, vehicle control, and road driving skills
• Provide instruction on DOT regulations, safety compliance, and industry standards
• Prepare students for CDL permit and road tests

Student Development

• Evaluate student performance and provide feedback for improvement
• Track attendance, progress, and completion of required training hours
• Offer coaching and remediation for students needing additional support

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all training meets Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
• Maintain a safe training environment at all times
• Conduct and document safety inspections of training vehicles

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate student records and reports in internal systems (e.g., STARS)
• School will provide you with admin to assist with all records and reports

Equipment & Facility

• Inspect training vehicles daily (pre/post-trip)
• Report maintenance issues immediately
• Ensure proper use of training equipment and materials

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A or Class B license (with appropriate endorsements)
• Minimum 3–5 years of commercial driving experience
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• Ability to pass DOT drug screening and background check

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous CDL instruction or training experience
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards

• Patience and ability to work with diverse student populations
• Leadership and classroom management skills
• Attention to detail and safety compliance
• Basic computer skills for reporting and student tracking

Work Environment

• Combination of classroom, training yard, and on-road instruction
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm NO Weekends

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
• Ability to climb in and out of commercial vehicles
• Ability to lift up to 5 lbs
