Chief Program Officer

Greater Good Charities is a 501(c)(3) global nonprofit organization that works to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good. To date, we have provided over $1B in aid, expertise, and funding in 121 countries in support of this mission.

Position Summary

The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving the strategic direction, operational excellence, and measurable outcomes of Greater Good Charities' programmatic work. The CPO leads cross-functional program teams to deliver high-impact initiatives aligned with the organization's mission and oversees the development of monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks to assess impact across global initiatives. The CPO also oversees disaster relief efforts and is responsible for developing and managing the organization's global logistics network to ensure efficient and effective delivery of aid and resources worldwide. Global travel is necessary for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the planning, development, and execution of all programmatic initiatives across key areas: Logistics, Safe Housing, Relief Services, Food & Supplies Procurement, Biodiversity & Conservation, Animal Health & Wellbeing, and Education.
  • Provide input of program operations and strategic expansion in Europe.
  • Lead global disaster relief efforts, including emergency response coordination and recovery planning.
  • Align program strategies with the organization's mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Ensure programs are evidence-based, scalable, and sustainable.
  • Lead and support a high-performing team of program directors, regional managers, and field staff.
  • Develop and oversee a global logistics infrastructure to support timely and cost-effective distribution of goods, supplies, and services.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with logistics partners, government agencies, and in-country organizations.
  • Integrate logistics operations with program delivery strategies across all regions.
  • Ensure risk management, quality control, and contingency planning in all logistical efforts.
  • Design and implement systems to monitor, evaluate, and report program outcomes and social impact.
  • Develop a culture of learning and continuous improvement across programs.
  • Collaborate with external partners and researchers to validate impact.
  • Translate data and results into compelling narratives for donors, partners, and the public.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and other executives on strategy, innovation, and organizational impact.
  • Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation for all program areas.
  • Represent Greater Good Charities in external partnerships, coalitions, and public forums.
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and community-centered practices in all aspects of program design and delivery.
Required Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of experience in nonprofit or NGO leadership roles, with a strong background in program development, logistics, international operations, disaster relief, logistics, and impact evaluation.
  • Master's degree in nonprofit management, public policy, logistics, social sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage complex, multi-regional program and logistics portfolios.
  • Experience with data systems, logic models, KPIs, and evaluation methods.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and change management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and collaborative tools like SharePoint, Teams, and project management software
  • Passion for Greater Good Charities' mission and commitment to serving people, animals, and the planet.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing operations or programs in Europe and other international contexts
  • Knowledge of international shipping, customs, humanitarian logistics, and supply chain optimization.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and donor reporting related to program outcomes.
  • Multilingual skills or cross-cultural competencies.

Working Environment: This position is fully remote in the US. The employee is expected to work 40 hours per week from 9 am – 5 pm in their time zone Monday – Friday. Travel: 25%
