Qualifications:
  1. Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by State of Indiana (minimum)
  2. Bachelors Science Nursing (BSN) degree preferred
  3. CPR/AED certified
  4. Previous school nursing experience preferred but not required
Responsibilities:
  1. Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
  2. Completes health care plans, health portion of Section 504 plan, and IEPs
  3. Administers medication with appropriate documentation
  4. Performs and supervises skilled nursing procedures as ordered by student's healthcare provider
  5. Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, assessments and medical conditions
  6. Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
  7. Coordinates and performs mandatory vision and hearing screenings
  8. Acts as a resource on immunization needs
  9. Assumes responsibility for notifying school personnel regarding health-related conditions of students
  10. Provides oversight and supervision of student health aids/assistants/clerks.
Communication:
  1. Maintains communication with health staff, teachers, other school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students
  2. Provides/obtains relevant information to/from physicians, hospitals and other agencies for referred student in accordance with FERPA guidelines
  3. Completes accident/incident reports for students and staff
  4. Compiles data for statistical purposes
  5. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues
Organization:
  1. Maintains log of student visits and documentation of individual health records
  2. Maintains the daily environment of the health service office and supplies
  3. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
  4. Performs other health or school related work as required
  5. Manage other health staff
