What You’ll Do:

Receive, sort, and process specimens ensuring proper specimen handling and storage.

Perform routine laboratory tasks including centrifuging specimens, preparing slides, and aliquoting samples.

Assist with reagent and media preparation to support testing procedures.

Conduct basic instrument maintenance and troubleshoot equipment as needed.

Record and monitor laboratory data, including temperature logs and specimen tracking.

Perform quality assurance and quality control duties to ensure testing accuracy.

Find and resolve issues such as missing samples or pending test lists.

Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly safety testing, including radioactive wipe tests.

Follow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and biohazard disposal.

Operate laboratory computer systems and maintain accurate records.

Support department functions by changing gas cylinders, preparing workstations, and maintaining supplies.

Collaborate respectfully with team members and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.

Required Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant training or coursework in math and science preferred.

Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and computer systems.

Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, including PPE and hazardous waste disposal.

Good communication skills and a professional attitude.

Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and retain learned information.

Nice to Have Skills:

Experience working in a medical or clinical laboratory setting.

Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) or other healthcare software.

Basic understanding of laboratory procedures such as specimen prep and QA/QC processes.

Knowledge of radioactive safety procedures.

Preferred Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training or certification in medical assisting, phlebotomy, or laboratory sciences is advantageous but not mandatory.

Prior experience in a clinical laboratory environment is a plus, but entry-level candidates with a strong motivation to learn are encouraged to apply.
