The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Board) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is hiring paid law clerks to support the Office of Legal Services. The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States and is responsible for conducting the nation’s monetary policy, promoting the stability of the financial system, and promoting the safety and soundness of individual financial institutions. The CFPB regulates consumer financial products and services and empowers consumers to make better-informed financial decisions. The OIG is the independent and objective oversight authority for the Board and the CFPB. The OIG conducts audits, investigations, and other reviews of the programs and operations of the Board and the CFPB, to assess and promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in these programs and operations while helping to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. Within the OIG, the Office of Legal Services is the independent legal counsel to the IG and the OIG staff. The Office of Legal Services law clerk will assist in providing comprehensive legal advice, research, counseling, critical analysis, and representation in support of OIG projects and activities. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Conducts legal research (e.g., statutes, regulations, case law, policies). Writes memoranda, correspondence, case law briefs, and legislative summaries. Attends and participates in client meetings. Requirements for Summer Law Clerk Applicant must be a current 1L. Applicants should have an enthusiasm for seeking out opportunities to learn new legal skills; excellent oral communication, research, and writing skills; and initiative to see projects to completion while multi-tasking in a workplace environment. Transcripts will be required when grades become available. Location The internship location is in Washington, DC, primarily onsite. The internship includes participation in various Board events.
