Job Title: Instructional Designer

Location: Remote (Michigan) with occasional travel for video shoots

Duration: Contract through 05/04/2027

About the Role

We are seeking an early-career Instructional Designer (2–3 years of experience) with strong foundational instructional design skills and hands-on video production experience. This role supports training initiatives within a utilities environment, with a strong emphasis on creating engaging, high-quality video-based learning solutions.

The ideal candidate is comfortable designing learning experiences, collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs), and executing end-to-end video production from planning and filming to editing and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design

• Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to develop effective learning solutions
• Partner with SMEs to analyze training needs and translate complex concepts into clear, learner-focused content
• Design and develop a variety of training materials, including:
• Instructor-led and virtual instructor-led training (ILT/VILT)
• E-learning modules
• Microlearning content
• Video-based training assets
• Create storyboards, scripts, and learning outlines aligned with performance objectives
• Maintain and update existing training materials to ensure accuracy and relevance
• Ensure all content meets accessibility, usability, and quality standards

Video Production

• Lead pre-production efforts, including scriptwriting, interview preparation, and production planning
• Coordinate schedules, locations, and SMEs for video shoots
• Set up and manage basic camera, lighting, and audio equipment
• Conduct video shoots and provide on-camera coaching as needed
• Perform post-production editing, including:
• Cutting and trimming footage
• Syncing audio and video
• Adding titles, graphics, and basic animations
• Optimize video content for various platforms (LMS, intranet, mobile)
• Ensure all video assets align with brand and quality standards

Required Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in instructional design or learning & development
• Strong understanding of instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles
• Hands-on experience with video production (pre-production, filming, and editing)
• Experience developing e-learning and multimedia training content
• Ability to translate technical or operational concepts into engaging learning materials
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a utilities, energy, or technical environment
• Familiarity with LMS platforms and content delivery systems
• Experience with video editing and auhoring tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite)
