Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN - Dialysis PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 2 may be an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for new employees who meet the RN CAP 2 criteria or attained through advancement from RN CAP 1. This position is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. It may include delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, this position participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are expected to be performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, standards of nursing practice, and relevant regulations. Perform all essential functions under supervision and guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or collaborating RNs. Collect and analyze patient data systematically before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment; document findings; adjust treatment plans as needed; notify relevant healthcare team members. Assess and document patient/family learning needs; provide ongoing education about treatment and care. Coordinate and deliver safe, effective hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with care staff. Administer prescribed medications and document their justification and effects. Assist with emergency response measures when necessary. Serve as a resource, mentor, and role model to staff and new employees. Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed; reschedule missed collections. Update nursing assessments and care plans through interdisciplinary collaboration. Inform patients about transplant and treatment options. Participate in educational and quality improvement initiatives. May serve as a Preceptor for new staff. Complete CAP requirements for professional development. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The role involves physical activities such as heavy lifting, patient mobility assistance, and prolonged standing, within a healthcare environment that may include exposure to infectious diseases. SUPERVISION: Oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LVNs, LPNs, or RNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge, following successful completion of required training and minimum experience in hemodialysis. EDUCATION and LICENSURE: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, valid state licensure, CPR/BLS certification, and compliance with state practice requirements. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Entry-level RNs with at least 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience, specifically a minimum of 2 years dialysis experience required.
