Job Description
Safety Coordinator – General Contractor
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Safety Coordinator to support the safe delivery of our Clients construction projects across Northern Virginia . Reporting to the Safety Manager (or directly to senior leadership on smaller teams), you will be the boots-on-the-ground safety presence across our active job sites, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a strong safety culture across our workforce and subcontractor base.
Our client specialises in Power Generation and Data Center construction , operating across some of the most technically demanding and fast-paced project environments in the industry. This role will require regular travel across Northern Virginia to support our active project portfolio, and candidates should be comfortable spending the majority of their time in the field across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits across active Power Generation and Data Centre construction projects throughout Northern Virginia, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly
- Support the development, implementation, and enforcement of site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safe Work Method Statements
- Lead and facilitate toolbox talks, safety orientations, and ongoing safety training for field staff and subcontractors
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective and preventative actions
- Maintain accurate safety records including inspection logs, training records, incident reports, and OSHA 300 logs
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926 Construction) and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and hold them accountable to project safety standards
- Support pre-task planning and review of high-risk activities including working at height, excavation, confined space entry, crane and rigging operations, energised electrical work, and hot work — with particular awareness of the elevated electrical and mechanical risks present on Power Generation and Data Centre sites
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the company's Safety Management System and related policies and procedures
- Liaise with project managers, superintendents, and site foremen to integrate safety into daily operations
- Participate in owner/client safety meetings and represent the company professionally on all safety matters — including with hyperscale and utility-scale end users
- Track and report on leading and lagging safety indicators (TRIR, DART, near misses, observations)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2–4 years of construction safety experience, preferably within a general contracting environment
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (required); OSHA 500 a plus
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and applicable safety regulations
- Experience on electrically complex or high-voltage construction environments is strongly preferred given the nature of our project portfolio
- Demonstrated ability to conduct site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly across Northern Virginia project sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation, or actively working towards one
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Direct experience on Data Center or Power Generation construction projects
- Familiarity with high-voltage electrical safety, generator systems, UPS infrastructure, or critical power environments
- Familiarity with ISNetworld, Avetta, or similar contractor prequalification platforms
- Experience managing subcontractor safety compliance on multi-trade projects
Key Competencies
- Strong communicator — able to engage effectively with field crews, subcontractors, project managers, and senior leadership
- Proactive and detail-oriented with a solutions-focused mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-site environment across Northern Virginia
- Confident in stopping work when conditions are unsafe, regardless of schedule pressure
- Collaborative team player who leads by influence as much as by authority
Working Conditions
- Primarily field-based with regular travel across active construction sites throughout Northern Virginia
- Exposure to typical outdoor construction environments — candidates must be comfortable working at heights, in varying weather conditions, and in proximity to heavy equipment and high-voltage electrical systems
- Some office-based reporting and administrative duties required
